a boy playing with monsters

“Wherever they go, and whatever happens to them on the way, in that enchanted place on the top of the forest, a little boy and his Bear will always be playing.”

2014 marks the sixtieth anniversary of Godzilla, the world’s most famous movie monster. Around the globe, people are celebrating this momentous occasion in many different ways, but no one honors Godzilla better than his homeland of Japan. The Big Godzilla Special Effects Exhibition will display original props, suits, production art and memorabilia in one centralized location - and it’s only on display in Tokyo for two weeks.

Exhibits like these are rarely seen by westerners and only a small fraction of the English speaking world has ventured to the land of the rising sun to view them. They return home with tales and photos of movie history and have had them published in fan magazines and on websites for decades. But with recent advances in technology, we can now share these stories and images in beautiful high definition.

If successfully funded, I will travel to Japan to document the Big Godzilla Special Effects Exhibition and interview key members from Godzilla’s sixty-year history. The images and footage collected will be edited into a feature length documentary that will be available on YouTube titled Hail to the King: 60 Years of Destruction. If we meet some stretch goals, this documentary could eventually be available through Video On Demand services. We have an awesome group of artists and fans who are helping to create some of the incredible perks for the campaign.

Time is of the essence! Without a doubt, our biggest challenge is the ticking clock of funding this project, traveling to Tokyo and documenting this exhibit in a very short timeframe. If we meet our goal, we will only have four days in Japan to capture this monumental opportunity.

Additionally, time also comes into play once the team assembles back in America. With less than three months to create the documentary, Martin and Kyle have their work cut out for them but they are excited to have the opportunity to work together.

Of course other challenges exist - the team will need to keep backers updated and coordinate with the creative collaborators to make sure the backers get their perks on time for donating. But while the entire team is fully committed to making this project a reality, only your donation can get this documentary off the ground. Please help us celebrate Godzilla’s legacy by contributing to this independent documentary and thrilling kaiju fans around the world.
